Alan Thornett 1937 – 2026

My friend and comrade Alan Thornett- the author of this website- has died.

The site has been brought up to date, incorporating the last two articles which he wrote and finished at the beginning of September.

Ian Parker writes “Alan Thornett (1937-2026) was an abrasive, determined, impressive presence in the leadership of the British Section of the Fourth International, a key figure in militant trade union struggles as an activist in the Communist Party, then Workers Revolutionary Party, then Workers Socialist League, and he continued with us, after a principled merging of rival Trotskyist organisations, in the International Socialist Group, Socialist Resistance, and then Anti-Capitalist Resistance, to shift revolutionary Marxist politics toward ecosocialism, a comrade to learn from, argue with and respect.”

A full appreciation of Alan’s life and struggles, over many decades, will appear here in due course.
